A Committed Leader

Councilwoman Tamika Williams-Obeng embodies humility while serving on the Georgetown City Council. Her journey isn't solely about public service; it's a heartwarming tale of returning to her home with a purpose. Returning to her hometown in 2019 after residing in Chicago, Illinois, she hit the ground running, propelled by a profound desire to impact her cherished community positively. Tamika's journey into leadership commenced at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She became a mother who cherishes international travel, blending her love for family with her passion for exploring new horizons.

A Community Advocate & Bridge Builder

She is not just a councilwoman; she's an active participant in community initiatives. Her online presence is a testament to her dedication, where she shares engaging photos and videos that depict the heartwarming stories of the events and projects she has spearheaded and actively participated in. Her commitment transcends her role in office. She's integral to influential committees and task forces, including the Francis P. Bunnelle Spring 2023 Allocations Committee and The City of Georgetown 2021 Comprehensive Plan Task Force. Her unwavering commitment shines through in her contributions to the City of Georgetown Board of Zoning and Appeals from 2021 to 2023.

A Dedicated Servant with a Vision for Change

Beyond her civic duties, Councilwoman Williams-Obeng is a devoted member of Arnett African Methodist Episcopal Church in Georgetown. There, she serves as the secretary of the missionary society and imparts wisdom to the youth in Sunday School. Her faith is a guiding force that fuels her dedication to community engagement and her advocacy for improved rural healthcare.

She is a bridge builder committed to breaking down barriers and nurturing stronger relationships among the city's residents. She places significant emphasis on creating and maintaining fruitful community and business partnerships, recognizing their vital role in enhancing the City of Georgetown, SC, for all its residents. As a member of the South Carolina Women's Black Caucus, she actively works towards promoting inclusivity and equity. Notably, she is only the 2nd African American woman in 33 years to serve on the City Council of Georgetown, SC, marking a significant milestone in her remarkable journey. Her recent recognition with the Entrepreneurship Honorary Award from The Georgetown County Democratic Women’s Council underscores her dedication to her community.
